The Hallifordian - 2016-2017
10 Every year Halliford School go on a ski and snowboard trip somewhere in the world. This year, 12 % of the school opted to travel back to Jasper, Canada. It was a choice they would not regret. With almost 20cm of fresh powder falling whilst out there leading to amazing skiing conditions. It was a bit of a journey for sure, but this is what two boys had to say about the trip: Early on Monday morning, we arrived at school with a long journey ahead of us, but a week full of skiing, snowboarding and activities to look forward to. After arriving at the airport and board- ing the aeroplane for a 9 hour flight, the atmosphere was buzzing; we were about to embark on an incred- ible trip. On arrival, we were stunned at the pictur- esque views of the towering mountains surrounding us and then we arrived at the largest national park in Canada, Jasper. After a short rest and some well-de- served sleep, we were ready to go to the mountains to begin our adventure of skiing and snowboarding. On the first day, we started to get back into the feel of skiing or snowboarding, by approach- ing the gentler slopes. However, by lunch time we could attack the harder, steeper slopes and even got weaving in between the trees lining the slopes, oc- casionally crashing into them! We also started to learn tricks to improve our abilities on skis or snow- boards and to impress our families back home. As we progressed through the week, constantly learning new things and improving our techniques, we rode steeper slopes and hit bigger jumps, trying to take our skills to another level. We also did several activities to keep us en- tertained in the evenings. We went swimming on the first night and had great fun on the diving boards and monkey bars. Next we explored the quiet town of Jasper, absorbing in the peaceful, relaxed at- mosphere before watching an amazing game of ice hockey. We may have been rooting for the wrong team, but the Edmonton Oilers (or perhaps the Zam- boni Man ) enjoyed our support! On the third night Hallifordians in Jasper, Canada.
