12 Year 11 Geography Field Trip: Norfolk Just a few weeks into the new academic year, the Year 11 Geographers once again journeyed up to North Norfolk to complete their coastal fieldwork as part of their controlled assessment. With a smaller group than previous years, we travelled in two mini- buses. Despite having done this journey many times I took the wrong turn out of the Halliford gates. The result? We nearly ran out of fuel before leaving Sur- rey! Not the best start. However, the students were nonchalant about the entire episode and I was grate- ful that the rest of the journey passed uneventfully. Cromer Beach, Norfolk. Despite the long drive there was plenty of data to collect when we arrived. We were all thank- ful for the glorious sunshine that welcomed us. The tides had played a role in bringing the data collec- tion forward, and athough it was a challenge for the students to get stuck into work after such a long day, they tackled the job studiously while I attempted to create some educational videos for use back in the class room. The students will attest that, while I am many things, Steven Spielberg I am not... For the next two days the students used com- puters to analyse the data they had collected and at- tempted to put it all into a coherent form. It was hard work but they worked like Trojans to get the task finished. On Sunday evening, therefore, they were de- lighted to be taken out to Cromer for a chance to eat the freshest fish and chips money can buy. Though the food was definitely a major plus point, the main highlight for many was the opportunity to get a phone signal and to connect to some free Wi-Fi! So, while the sun set, the glow of the mobile phone screens shone in the enveloping darkness. “The freshest fish and chips money can buy…” My thanks goes to Mr Heeney and Mrs Wag- ner-Hall for accompanying me on the trip and giving up their time.
