The Hallifordian - 2016-2017
14 Cormac Evans standing in and learning a whole new scene in record time for an indisposed student! I must thank all those staff who helped be- hind the scenes to keep the wheels running smooth- Patrick Wanat, George Holmes and Joe Baker in Hamlet. Benedick (Matthew Turley) overhears bad news! What Halliford means to me I remember my first day at Halliford really well. I was terrified! I was the only boy to come from my primary school. The train journey was nerve wrack- ing. My head was full of doubts and fears. I was scared that I wouldn’t make any friends. However, looking back on that first day I can’t imagine what all the fuss was about! At first I did spend several weeks wandering around the corridors looking for my classrooms. A new school can be very disorientating in- deed. But by the end of the first half term I had conquered the layout. (Strangely enough a few of us still managed to get ‘lost’ on the way to Latin until then end of the Autumn term…) Because the school is quite small it is easier to get to know every- body. The way I made most of my friends was through sport. You get to know each other really well on the pitch and have to work together and rely on each other. I made one good friend simply because I passed the ball to him which set him up to score the winning try. Before coming to Halliford I had never taken part in drama, so getting a part in the Shakespeare Ex- travaganza was brilliant, even though I played a female role. I am also really proud that I have been picked to play in the rugby A Team for the last two years. I still remember my first try. I received the ball, bounced my opponent, ran through and scored, it was great. I also never knew that I was good at art before joining Halliford but I have received three bene awards for art this year. My favourite teachers are Mr Cunningham and Mr Bruno. Mr Cunningham is my RS teacher. He is really funny but also good teacher so I am definitely doing RS for GCSE. Mr Bruno is my drama teacher. He has got a great sense of humour. His lessons are really fun and he makes us feel really relaxed and prepared to take part in the lessons. To be honest, most of the teachers are pretty good. If a parent was thinking of sending their child to Halliford I would tell them that it’s a great school. I have made many good friends. I am very happy here and wouldn’t want to go to anywhere else. William Wheeler, Year 9 ly. Any stage production is a team effort and what a strong one we had this year! Mr Bruno, Head of Drama
