The Hallifordian - 2016-2017

21 Pan Galactic Extravaganza It has been a pleasure watching the growth of the Sci-Fi Club franchises this year. Sci-Fi Club has upgraded from running once, to twice a week under the guidance of Ben Ingles and TomWittke. They have been regularly challeng- ing members of the club to some of the most techni- cal and demanding quizzes I have seen. Board bat- tles and figure painting have also been high on the agenda. If you want to join the club, you will need to undertake a fearsome entrance exam – so get revis- ing now! Star Wars Club has been equally active. We were delighted by (and incredibly grateful for) the PTA donation which enabled us to buy light sabres of inter-house skills combat. The first official battle should take place in the Autumn. Elliott Saunders was a great leader and we were sad when he decided it was time to hang up his Storm Trooper boots in preparation for the start of GCSEs next year. Wil- liam McGuigan has taken over the ship and we look forward to many exciting meetings ahead. Intergalactic Club exploded onto the scene in order to cater for those who love Dr Who in his various incarnations. Created by Eliott Leupolz it is now under the trusty command of Oliver Fisk. Pokemon is our newest group with plenty of activities run by Finlay Crichard. It has been a joy and a pleasure working with these guys and I am delighted that Mrs Peacock, Mrs Bootle-Wilbraham and Miss Kritzinger will be tak- ing over the groups. One final word…Mr King…The Force is With You. Mrs (Jedi) Rogers Intergalactic Club At Intergalactic Club I mainly show presen- tations about Doctor Who. In those presentations there can be anything from the doctor’s enemies to weird facts. When a new series arises I give the club an overview of what happened in each episode each week so that the members can understand it in more depth but also to help it make sense. Sometimes, I include videos/DVDs and ‘Kahoot’ quizzes (multi- ple people doing an online quiz at the same time). You can even make your own presentations to show in the club if it is an Intergalactic topic, such as Star Trek, The Matrix or Men in Black. If you like Doctor Who this is the best club for you; and now is the perfect time to join because the new se- ries of Doctor Who has just started. During the Win- ter Term I was not actually leader ofthe club, so I have only recently taken on the role of running it. But in the Spring Term I managed to cover some of the enemies from the new series, Missy/the Master, info about the new series, a vote for who you want to be the next Doctor and the Krillitanes. Oliver Fisk, Year 9 Pokemon Club Pokemon club is a unique and fun club in my eyes. This club was made in March as I saw there were many clubs run by pupils and I decided that I wanted to make one based on Pokemon, something I have loved now for many years. This club is still in its early days and it will take time for it to grow but hopefully over the next few months we can de- velop the club. If plans are accepted then a House Pokemon competition will take place which would be great fun. Pokemon club is a fun and interesting place where we talk about different things in the franchise from the games to the anime and from the manga to the cards. Ever since the start of the club I have made it clear that there are rules to be followed. If you don’t set these out then things can go badly wrong! The members of my club seem to enjoy it. It was a risk starting a new club but the rewards are worth it. If you like something there is no reason you shouldn’t make a club based around it because if you have the support then you only need to find like-minded individuals. Go for it!
