The Hallifordian - 2016-2017
24 What Halliford means to me There are five girls in my year. I've come from having at least 15 other girls in my class and now there are five in the entire year. You would immedi- ately assume that we would all stick together- strength in numbers. And that was the case in the beginning. However, what has surprised me the most is that even though we have all become less reliant on each other there is still that closeness, that bond from the start that we all have from coming into a male dominated school not knowing any one to feeling right at home. I think we'd all say we never imagined we'd become so well inte- grated and so I'd like to say a big thank you to the teachers who have not treated us any differently to the boys enabling the close knit bonds between everyone in the year. Alanah Swift, Year 12 Credit must go to Tom Snape who gave a sensitive performance as old Tom Oakley. It was genuinely moving to witness how he bonded with Matthew’s William during the course of the final act. Max Jackson took over the role of Zach and played it up to the hilt. His description of the ‘facts of life’ was a comedic masterpiece. The rest of the cast created a tight ensemble and offered admirable support to the leading play- ers. I must also credit the backstage team and tech- nicians who helped everything run tightly to sched- ule. So much time, commitment and effort goes into the mounting of a production like Goodnight Mr Tom and the results of the Halliford team cer- tainly paid off. In the final assessment, Mr Bruno’s production was a profoundly moving experience and another solid gold success for the Halliford students. Mr Cunningham “He called me Dad!” Max Zander-Holder as Mr Tom. Spanish Club Spanish club has been a huge success this year! Every Wednesday, Years 10 and 12 pupils have been working with some Year 7s focusing on a number of things including practising their speaking and writing as well as giving them handy hints on how to remember vocabulary. The atmosphere has been fantastic and it has been a real pleasure to see everyone working together. Well done to all of you for giving up your time – I look forward to seeing you again next year.
