The Hallifordian - 2016-2017
75 continued to make positive steps towards the illusive solo victory. Bradley Marshall captained the side ad- mirably in his performance and commitment both on and off the pitch. Lindstrup, Peppiatt and Lawrence also impressed. There are many lessons for some of the team to learn from this season as they mature in to U15 performers. Competition for places will be interesting next year with many of the B team im- pressing with a far steeper learning curve. The U14 Bs gained far more success, plac- ing less emphasis on individuals and more focus on the team working together, this resulted in some well-earned victories. U15 Overall the U15 A had a successful season. After a slow start and a loss to Salesians Chertsey the boys then won their next three games against Latymer, Gordons, and Ewell Castle. This was fol- lowed by three draws against Claremont, Salesians Farnborough, and Kingston Grammar. A bit more composure in front of goal would have seen a cou- ple of these draws turned into wins. Over twenty boys represented the A team this season, just going to show the strength in depth that there is in Year 10. The centre back pairing of Lewis Job and Alex Kijowski deserve special mention for their consist- ent availability and performances throughout the season. The B’s had one win, one draw, one loss. They were competitive in every game, and well led by Tom Boynton and Toby Fuller. Senior Once again it has been a competitive season for Senior Footballers at Halliford. We managed to successfully field four teams on a Wednesday after- noon which is very encouraging from a mass partici- pation perspective. First XI Captained by Tom Wensley the first XI were once again a new look side having predominantly been made up of year elevens last year. This year’s year elevens again slotted into the side nicely. We were extremely competitive in all fixtures played, showing an ability to keep possession well and be- ing a difficult side to break down due to some solid defensive play. Mather, Galvin and Healey were all year elevens who impressed in their first season playing in the side. Job and Moaveni maintained an excellent central defensive partnership at the back giving us stability in defensive areas. Joyce furthermore im- pressed in midfield by covering a lot of ground and acting as the teams ‘playmaker’ with his impressive passing range. Finishing an unlucky fourth in the su- per 8 competition this year I feel the side are capa- ble of going further with the addition of next year’s elevens to strengthen further. The u12 team have enjoyed their first expe- rience of 7s picking up the quicker version of the game with ease. In the Surrey 7s they progressed second in the initial waterfall group stage then winning the af- ternoon 2nd place league. Clark, Stace, Jackson, Mc- cardle and Mengers all impressed while Hepworth, Mccardle, and Gavin continued their fine form from the 12 a Side season. The U13s season is always the busiest with the most competitions. This really is the age group who learn about 7s giving them the tools to progress through the age groups. The team began the season well at the CLFS tournament that resulted in a SF loss. Whilst on tour the team performed admirably at Millfield and Berkhampsted taking some big scalps. On the back of these tournaments, with confidence high the team performed exceptionally well at the Surrey 7s beat- ing Dulwich, RGS Guildford and other big rugby schools. Rhys Day, Raff Hollister, Hair bear, McGrath and James Taylor were all consistent in their impres- sive performances whilst being ably assisted by the likes of Tenniswood, Fallon, Cole, lucking and Goderski. In the latter tournaments Chris long and Alex Donnoly also contributed well.
