The Hallifordian - 2016-2017
77 excellent season and the boys should be proud of their efforts. The B team, captained by Riley Whittington and Paul-Louis Howard, didn’t lack the desire or ef- fort but were unlucky to come up against some tough opposition. With the sport being new to a lot of the players in the team, they did exceptionally well to be very competitive in each fixture. U13 Played Won Lost Drew 10 8 2 0 Captained by Chris Cole there is clearly a great deal of talent in the side. There have been some very convincing wins, close matches and narrow losses throughout the season, which as the playing record above suggests has been very successful. Cole, Goderski and Taylor have been stand out players, contributing with both runs and wickets consistently. Day has shown real improvement as an all-rounder and should take confidence from this next season. New additions to an already talented side have also come in and contributed well. Burson in particular has strengthened the batting line up and fielded superbly. Going forward the key things is runs on the board for this side, they have achieved 140 plus in many games this season. In the two games that were lost, even though the side bowled and fielded well, the total against two good sides was a little light. Momentum at the beginning of the innings is some- thing they have done successfully in many games this season and is something that needs to be main- tained in all fixtures. Nevertheless, a very talented side who have impressed this season. The B’s have maintained very high stand- ards and have succeeded in having an unbeaten sea- son. It was never a struggle to get a side out with often thirteen individuals on the team sheet each week as so many were keen and committed to play. Captained by will Jones there is a lot of talent in the side and many players have pushed for an A team sport this season. Particularly satisfying wins came against Wimbledon College and Churchers College. They should be pleased with their achievements and maintain their enthusiasm for next year. U14 The U14 team having played 8 matches won four and drew one. This is a reasonable season for this spirited team. Led superbly by Captain Chris Jones who, on several occasions has performed man- fully with both bat and ball. In total Jones scored 252 averaging 31.5 run per match. With 52 against King Edwards and 51 NO against CFC. Taking 8 wickets throughout the season as well, Chris has certainly led by example. Supporting roles have been played by Jonah Peppiatt whos powerful batting performances have put the opposition on the back foot. Harry Cur- tis also deserves recognition for his workman like approach to matches, when required he has stepped up and secured victory, on some occasions, from the jaws of defeat. The B team Captained by Sam Imperato have only had a couple of matches with many oppo- sition failing to produce a B team. It is credit to the Halliford spirit that we have players prepared to step in and perform week in week out and I know they have been disappointed not to have played more. In the matches played. The highlight with the bat was Remy Matthews 45 NO vs St Georges College. There are a great many able cricketers in this year group who can perform admirably for Halliford in the future and their aim must be to maintain the ability to field two sides regularly. This way compe- tition for places and player development will remain the focus for this talented and energetic year group. U15 The U15’s have played 6 and won 3 games this year. The season got off to a great start with a superb bowling performance against Wimbledon College, spearheaded by Huw Morley’s 5 wickets. The top order did their best to throw the game away, but thanks to Matt Ballardie’s unbeaten 38, we won by 4 wickets. This was followed by a comprehensive 80 run victory over King Edward’s Witley, thanks to fifties from Lewis Job and Archie Laird and another 4 wickets from Huw Morley. The third match saw a heavy 73 run loss to a very strong Churchers Col- lege side. Just before half term the boys travelled over to St George’s College. Thanks to an unbeaten 48 from Lewis Job we put a good total on the board. Thanks to some good bowling from Fallon, Mavin, and Taylor we looked on course for a great victory, however a cracking innings of 64 not out from the St George’s number 4 saw them over the line by 1 wicket. Next came Claires Court, where a below par batting performance saw the side loose by 5 wickets. The final game was against Latymer, and the boys reserved their best all round performance for this match. The bowling and fielding was superb and allowed us to restrict Latymer to a modest total.
