The Hallifordian - 2016-2017

78 The opening partnership of Laird and Job set about the run chase in a positive manner, meaning that the total was quickly reached, and a 9 wicket vic- tory secured. The boys have been fantastic company throughout the season, and I look forward to seeing how they perform in the 1XI next year. 1st XI This season has been a difficult one for the 1XI. With availability proving a slight issue, a num- ber of boys have played in the team, which has meant that consistency has been hard to find. The first game saw a narrow nine run loss to Salesians, de- spite some good contributions from Alistair Kinder and Oliver Baker with the bat. That was followed by a superb 90 run victory over King Edward’s Witley, thanks largely to Alistair Kinder’s unbeaten century. The side then faced a tricky trip down to Churchers College. We did well to restrict them to a manage- able total, however our batting never really going, leading to a 69 run loss. Next we headed over to St George’s Wey- bridge for a match against their Year 12 side. A cracking run chase, with Alistair Kinder being un- beaten on 86 saw us win by 7 wickets. The last Sat- urday match of the season saw a 6 wicket loss to a very strong Latymer side. The season finished with the second ever match against the MCC. A mixture of current and old boys took to the field, but the strength and experience of the opposition proved too much for the boys as we suffered a heavy defeat. The MCC commented on the superb way that the boys approached the match, saying that we very much up- held the spirit of cricket. A final record of played 6 won 2 was not a fair reflection of the effort and commitment that the boys have shown this season. Despite being up against it on many occasions, their attitude and spirit was always superb. This is meant that it has been a thoroughly enjoyable season.
