The Hallifordian - 2016-2017

80 Halliford Golf Tournament, 2017 On the 5th of May on a sunny Friday evening 17 golfers took part in a handicapped and non-hand- icapped competition. We were put into groups for our ages so we could be with our friends. There were two Year 7, four Year 9, and five Year 10 groups in the non-handicapped. This was a well fought com- petition with Danny Hamilton winning and Lewis Job winning the handicapped competition. On Friday 9th June the Taylor Cup was played between the Staff and Sixth Form at Silver- mere. The staff were trying to defend the Cup against a very determined Sixth Form side. The first match saw Mr Greggor and Tom Wensley have an enthral- ling battle. The lead changed several times, but Mr Greggor eventually prevailed. Mr Bardgett and Mr Hodgkinson had a titanic battle with Ethan Job and Sam Cheah. A birdie on the last hole by Ethan saw them pick up the win. The team of Lewis Job and Tom Foley saw off the strong pairing of Mr Howard and Mr Car- rington, despite Tom losing a world record num- ber of golf balls. He even had to return to his car at one point to restock. This meant that with the Boys winning 2-1, everything came down to Mr Harden- Chaters and Mr Slowcock against Tom Snape and Harvey Gee. Thankfully for the Staff Mr Harden- Chaters was the difference between the teams and steered the Staff to a win. This left the match tied at 2-2, meaning the Staff retained the Taylor Cup. On Wednesday 28th June Ethan Job, Lew- is Job, and Joe Graves represented the School in the National Independent Schools Competition at Burhill. The boys played very well against thirty of the top schools in the country. They finished joint ninth in the Team Nett competition, with Ethan fin- ishing joint tenth out of ninety players. This was a fantastic achievement from the boys. I would like to thank Ethan Job for all that he has done to help to raise the profile of Golf in the school.
