The Hallifordian - 2016-2017
92 Congratulations goes to all pupils who achieved impressive merit totals or were nominat- ed for a prize by their tutor. This caps off an over- whelmingly positive term with students deserving a well-earned rest. Year Group Most merits Tutors Prize 7 Will Madden (52) Josh Gavin 8 Archie Evans (60) Charlie Poulter 9 Nick Atherfold (46) Seyon Satha 10 James Woodgate (44) Adam Baxendale 11 Oscar Fanti (32) Josh Deakins 12 Jack Davey 13 Josh Smith Christmas Carol Service The Carol service took place at St Peter’s Church on the 12th December this year. It is always a wonderful occasion that makes both staff and pupils feel very festive. Both students and staff excelled in performances this year and it was a real pleasure to see so many Wadhamites involve themselves in both singing and reading during the service. Special mentions go to Harry Osbourne, Nick Atherfold and Tom Wittke who all sang su- perbly in the choir. Will Greaves and Oliver Parsons also impressed with their readings during the Christ- mas service. House Rugby This competition is always keenly contested each year. Naturally as a PE teacher I am always keen for Wadham sides to perform as well as they can! It always gives me sense of pride how much effort the students put into this competition and how they show independence to organise themselves. All Wadham teams epitomised the purpose of the competition with mass participation and su- perb house competitiveness. The results of the competition are included below: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Year 7 Wadham/ Russell Greville Desborough Year 8 Desborough Russell Greville Wadham Year 9 Greville Wadham Russell Desborough Year 10 Greville Russell Desborough Wadham Senior Greville/ Russell/ Desborough Wadham Seniors This was an extremely competitive competi- tion with some very good rugby being played by all three sides. Wadham managed to involve impressive numbers with students taken from years 11,12 and 13. Organised by Shivam Patel and Seb Freizo the boys were confident of a strong performance. Sadly the boys came up against some strong sides and end- ed up finishing in fourth place. Wadham were ex- tremely competitive in each fixture played and were a little unlucky not to place higher. Year 10 again approached their competition extremely enthusiastically, with impressive numbers and amounts of tape being used, even on Josh Piper- Gray’s crutches! Once more as with the 11, 12’s and 13’s the boys played some competitive rugby and were unlucky not to finish higher than fourth place. Archie Laird impressed and seemed to be all over the pitch during each fixture. Year 9 impressed, finishing second place and narrowly missing out on winning their age group competition. Stand out performances came from Chris Jones and Charlie Hughes in the back line and Oliver Parsons with his strong, direct style of play. Year 8 contributed well to a strong compe- tition, all four sides played some very good rugby and although they finished fourth, each game they played in had a narrow score line so they were by no means outclassed in any of the fixtures. As always particular enjoyment came from watching the New Year sevens perform in their first inter house rugby competition. They were outstand- ing and ended up finishing joint first after a superb final fixture against Russell. All players represented the house superbly, and set themselves high stand- ards to maintain in inter house sport throughout their time at the school. Inter house Cross Country 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 7 Russell Wadham Desborough Grevielle 8 Russell Wadham Greville Desborough 9 Desborough Wadham Greville Russell 10 Russell Greville Desborough Wadham SNR Desborough Wadham Russell Greville This years house cross country saw great consistency from Wadham. Thank you to all who participated, we had no problems filling teams for this event, once again taking place at Desborough Island this year. The course conditions were good all week with overcast weather keeping runners cool
