The Hallifordian - 2016-2017
94 Gareth Hart spoke superbly and answered questions fielded by the panel very well. He was supported by both Matthew Alexander and James Biggs, all three students demonstrated how to ex- ecute these roles very well indeed. Juniors: Year Chair Person Speaker / Topic Vote of Thanks 7 Paul-Louis Howard Noah Warner – Why Crystal Palace are the greatest football team? William Greaves 8 Charlie Poulter Matthew Turley – What is better, the SAS or SBS? Archie Evans 9 Chris Jones Max Morrell – Should Cannabis be legalised? Oliver Parsons Junior inter house public speaking took place on Tuesday 27th June. As the table suggests Wadham speakers spoke about interesting, wide and varied topics. Wadham students really impressed, they were well turned out, rehearsed and delivery of speeches was confident. I would like to thank all 9 boys who volunteered as they did the house proud. Particularly our year 7 team of Howard, Warner and Greaves as it was their first time standing up on the stage in front of the lower school in a public speak- ing competition. The standard of speaking from all four hous- es was high and it was a thoroughly enjoyable com- petition to watch. Wadham won the junior competi- tion, a great reward for the hard work students put in. As well as winning overall individual awards were given to Noah Warner (year 7) as best Speaker and Charlie Poulter (Year 8) was awarded joint best Chairman with Owen Morris in Greville House. Sports day Above shows a selection of Wadham House students participating in Sports day, the final house event of the year. It was a superb day and students really seemed to enjoy the change of venue, King- smeadow Athletics stadium in Kingston. Wadham finished fourth overall, however there were some fantastic highlights a few of many include, both George and Alex Wicker (U12) who won every event they competed in on the track track and in the field. The only exception is where Alex came second to his brother in the long jump! Definitely two stars of the day. Sebastian Omorojor and Charlie Hughes achieved a convincing first and second in the U14 1500m. Jack Davey ran a superb senior 800m, winning the event comfortably. Oscar McArdle also won U12 shot putt. These are but a few of the excellent results achieved by individuals. All house performers completed in a fantastic spirit and all events were filled, thank you for everybody’s efforts. Farewells Earlier in the year we said farewell to Mrs Duffy after many years as a Wadham form tutor, she will be greatly missed and all Wadhamites wish her the very best of luck for the future. Finally it is also my last year in my second spell at the school, I have thoroughly enjoyed the eight and a half years in total I have spent at Halliford and will miss both staff and students as I go to try a new challenge in another local school.
